About the Certified Memorialist Program

As memorialization becomes increasingly competitive, the value of earning the Certified Memorialist® (CM) designation as a mark of excellence is more important than ever. Achieving CM status demonstrates to clients and employers your comprehensive knowledge of, and commitment to, our industry.

Certification is awarded to individuals, not to a business as a whole. Both Members and non-members of MBNA can apply to become a CM. CMs must recertify every three years by meeting certain educational requirements to stay up-to-date on industry trends.

Earning Your CM Is…

1. Proof of your knowledge and skills. As a CM, you will have passed a rigorous three-part exam that covers all aspects of the memorialization industry.
2. A testament of your commitment to the industry. CMs must recertify every three years to maintain their certification.
3. A step toward career advancement. Being a CM can boost your career opportunities within the industry.

To become a Certified Memorialist®, a candidate must:

1. Have at least two years of experience working full-time in the memorial profession
2. Be currently employed full-time in the memorial profession
3. Maintain an acceptable character, ability. and reputation
